FREEDOM: 50 YEARS OF PRIDE

BBC STUDIOS FOR CHANNEL 4

1 x 90 FEATURE LENGTH

A landmark documentary exploring the history of the Pride movement in the UK, made in collaboration with Oscar-nominated filmmaker Stephen Daldry. Funny, shocking and moving, the inspiring story of queer activism in the UK over the last five decades

As Co-Producer Director on this fast turnaround documentary, I created a unique visual style and tone with which I wanted to tell the untold stories of many of the inspirational people who bravely faced discrimination and changed the world for the better. Directing and interviewing a cast of many, encouraging them each to openly share their remarkable personal stories of courage, love, anger and determination

‘What a lineup…this big-hearted documentary and musical revue is a celebration’ The Guardian

‘A perfectly pitched feature-length documentary…precisely the sort of bold but accessible, distinctly British programming that Channel 4 should be making’ Daily Telegraph

’Simultaneously celebratory, educational and urgent ’ The I

‘A invigorating reminder to be vigilant. The dry wit, righteous anger and boundless energy that made UK Pride such a force is powerfully captured in a documentary featuring Ian McKellen and Olly Alexander’. The Guardian
